But, no matter about EXTRACT. That is an ORACLE thing.

For the second one, use "SUBSTRING([ISSUE_DATE],4,2)" instead of "MMM" in the GROUP BY.

Or, SUBSTRING the 6th and 7th characters.

First off, it depends heavily on which SQL version. MS-SQL is different from ORACLE's.

Look up "EXTRACT." This allows you to extract the month of a date.
