Malaria, Yellow Fever, probably not COVID-19

i was on vacation in Massachusetts the week of 3/16. the resort was entirely shut down on 3/17. i am fairly certain they were following New Yorks lead on that and New York had already shut down bars and restaurants on 3/16.

everyone i knew who had an office job had 100% wfh on 3/16 the latest though. they didn't wait for the governor.

schools however were open much longer than they should have been.

Seattle and SF corporate WFH started around March 9. Not sure when the rest of CA started. UW went virtual about the same time, with other universities following shortly thereafter. Govt imposed restrictions didn’t start for another week, but there was already a big head start.

Not sure that I buy that. Half the population lives in Alberta.

3/16 was when my company went to wfh, but most companies I know of in NYC did it earlier.

Probably something useful to remember...

In Italy, the anticipated "apex"—a discrete high point for infections and deaths, with a sharp slope on either side—turned out to be a *20-day plateau* with infection/death figures going slightly up or down day by day but staying above 4,000 daily infections and 700 daily deaths.

The big tech companies started WFH March 2. That's a pretty sizable percentage of the workforce in Seattle and the Bay Area. My company, as well as many others, did WFH starting March 9th.

Also, for a lot of people working in tech, WFH, not going out and ordering everything you need online was not a big adjustment.

NYC is also kinda the perfect storm for this virus. Younger population, high density, many asymptomatic carriers.
