Default What is log(10)?

How do you interpret the above notation?

I rounded wrong in the poll, should be 2.3026, but you get the point.

"log" with no base is assumed to be base 10.

But if someone feels the answer is different and that we should all respect that person's feelings (i.e., not correct him), then math is dead. Good work, Ilj.

With absolutely no context, you are correct, and that's how I voted.

In a science context, you are correct.

In a computer science context, no (base 2).

In some mathematical contexts, no.

In a book that only refers to log and not ln I assume the base is e. But it's real hard not think log(10)=1

I am studying and my study material keeps writing log when it means natural log. It is annoying.

Pretty common after you get out of 200-level maths.

If your study material never ever uses log base 10, you should be able to deal with it.
