it saddens me that so many people are so fearful because of it. yes, fear is a normal human response. okay, now what? it's very unhealthy - mentally, spiritually, and physically - to orient your life around that fear, to let that fear drive your life. after you've modified your daily life to minimize transmission, perhaps out of fear, then what comes next? how does fear benefit you from that point forward? some people are literally making themselves sick with fear
Fear is rational. Panic - that is completely unreasonable. My life is minimally altered because of this. I have to cancel a vacation, which sucks, but my job is very unlikely to go away. So, itís a bit hard for me to be too harsh about people staring down the barrel of a recession that arenít in as good of shape.

Simultaneously, Iím looking at my patient population data and wondering whether any of these people are going to be subject to triage in the near future. Itís more mentally preparing myself for the possibility than reacting to it at this point though.

Itís a fine line, and we all have varying degrees of ability to cope with this type of situation. Unfortunately, this is a situation where we may be watching people (not you) with more cavalier attitudes minimizing the effects of our own actions, which is rather demoralizing - I think we are at the toughest stage of this from a mental health perspective. Once all hands are on deck, I suspect morale will improve significantly.

I am getting increasingly anxious about the economy. Already worried about my grandparents and family, now worried about how long we'll all have jobs.

Let's put this in actuarial terms.

You have two cohorts of claims. Cohort 1 is 10 years old and is fully developed to $2m paid. Cohort 2 is 1 month old and is at $1m paid. The best estimate for paid to ultimate at month 1 is 10x. Do you understand why comparing a very undeveloped situation to a fully developed situation is improper?

Diarrhea is the #1 of a #2.
