I agree.

I do not have an account, though I have ridden with others on their accounts.

Question: are taxi companies using a similar internet method to hook up fares with their taxis? Or are they still relying on a dispatcher like Louie on that 80's show? I mean, if it's a choice between a professional driver in a car built for carrying riders, and some hack (hah!) in his mom's minivan, well, maybe price would still factor in. But I think I'd be a little safer with the professional.

I mean, I have a few people to kill in one night, and I need someone to ferry me around L.A. Gonna have to go with the cabbie with dreams of owning a limo company.

Didn't know passenger ratings were visible until this thread.

I was at, IIRC 4.6 at one point and freaking out, I'm back up though, a few weird airport pickup locations I think had been my problem before, apparently if you're <4.5 it gets harder to get rides.

Yup, the only thing worse is taking a cab.

So, you, prefer, the guy on the CB radio like in the 80s? Doesn't seem terribly efficient.

Most taxi drivers I’ve had are pretty far from what I’d call professionals, and cabs aren’t exactly the gold standard for safety or comfort. If I want a pro I’d go black car which you can do through Uber.

Most taxi companies carry whatever minimum insurance limits are required by state laws. Often these are provided through captive insurers which can be thinly capitalized at best.
