I've continued doing this. And hey, when someone made a copy of my credit card across the country, and my credit card company caught the person and wanted to prosecute, one of the folks I talked to mentioned that the fake of my signature didn't look anything like how I actually sign. So maybe it works.
They should pay you a commission!

I used to try and at least make the first letters of my first and last name legible just in case. Until one day there was a new cashier at a checkout line that was surprised that the system actually asked her if the signature on the screen looked correct.

Apparently for some systems they are supposed to check your signature on your license against the signature on the pad, but almost nobody does because the pads are so hard to actually write on it is impossible to compare anyway.

His real name is Êzeké . . . but he likes to go by a nickname people feel they can pronounce correctly.

you can make out the first letter in my first and last name, otherwise total squiggle. I do what I can to replicate that on a sign pad.

...but we don't get those sign pads very often in Canada. it's almost always either tap, or chip&pin.

Fun story my signature on my license is ever so slightly different than my signature from when I first registered to vote. When I last voted in November the lady had me sign a second time... and then a third... and was still unhappy it didn't exactly match my 18-year-old self's signature... ended up having to have the "manager" sorta look at it all with a very skeptical look until I could finally vote. Felt a lot like the liquor store a few years ago...

I'm surprised so many of you say you can't sign the pad. When I write on it, it looks surprisingly like my regular handwriting.

What ends up going through when I try looks like my handwriting, but fairly often either the box on the signature pad doesn't line up with the box on the screen (so the top/bottom of the signature is cut off), or there is some issue with conversion and only parts of the signature go through and it looks disjointed.

Because of those issues, I rarely try to make it legible when I'm somewhere I regularly shop, but if I'm out of town or it's a large $$ purchase I will put in the effort to make it look right.
