Default Dog owners: Do you brush your dog's teeth?

I know you're supposed to brush your dog's teeth, but my dog is uncooperative.

Does anyone regularly brush their dog's teeth, and does it make a difference?

Just get those ostensible teeth-cleaning treats for the dog.

Either that or don't.

I brush dog teeth. not a big deal till they get a little older (>6).

hes a chihuahua and doesnt really chew on anything that would self-clean (my lab just eats sticks all day, so I dont have to brush him).

If I dont brush chihuahua teeth, his gums will turn almost black from plague, bleed when you touch them, and his breath is unbearable.

My dog has digestive issues when I give him the dental treats. He also doesn't like it when I use a brush, even one of those finger brushes. But he's somewhat okay with me sticking my finger in his mouth. I've been doing that almost daily for the last couple of months and it helps quite a bit.

If yours doesn't like it, try following it up with something it does like. Mine gets his fur brushed afterwards, which he loves, so he sits nicely while my finger's in his mouth.

We have both and .
The dog really likes the three-sided toothbrush thing that came with the toothpaste in the first link, in that he sits there and chews on it while I hold it, and I can occasionally move it so that he's chewing on a different section of mouth. The second one is actually one of his favorite chew toys, but I have never put the toothpaste in it like it's built for, because it seems like it would create a huge mess on the carpet, and the dog won't play with his chew toys on our tile .
