I finally made it to the lanes Saturday. After a practice game shooting for corner pins, I shot a 211. Got lucky on a few crossover strikes and bunched the strikes together. Got unlucky leaving a 4-7-10 and a 6-7 on the two nose hits.

The ball still basically goes where I want it. I made a nice adjustment to loft the ball when I was finishing too high in the pocket.

The 11th frame demonstrated why it will be difficult for me to score big. Even with an outside line, I didn't carry the 5-pin.

Unfortunately, after a mere two games, my back said no mas. Two days later, it's still out. I hope regular stretching will enable me to get back out there.

my first ball was all over last night...totally inconsistent.

because my league average is still on the low side compared to what I can bowl regularly when I get in a groove, I still managed to average a little more than 10 pins above my average.

rawl was above his average too, but fell apart in the third game

our other two were below their averages and the other team bowled well
we went 0-4 this week, but we'll be back.

Finished the summer sport shot league.

Finished 9th out of 36 people in the league, and cashed (top 12 got paid)

Only top 5 made the step-ladder, but it was a lot of fun this season and again learned alot about release and where to play on the lane with the oil patterns.

Only averaged 182 in this 8 week league, but only one bowler averaged over 200, and he is a regional touring pro. One guy who shot 300 at nationals this year, was on the tour for a couple of years, and has two Eagles at nationals (won a doubles and team event), only managed mid 190's. So as you can see, very demanding shot.

Great experience, and will bowl this league again next year.

league was last night and we had quite a challenge...
one bowler was late because of traffic (roads closed) and missed game 1 - so he got 20 below his average as a fill in score, one bowled 13 below her average and the other bowled 66 below his average...
but I came through in game 1 and bowled 69 above my average by bowling a clean 225....
a new top score for me, and first clean and first 200+ of the league for me
unfortunately, it could have been up to 10 pins more as in the 10th I went 9/-
we managed to win the game by 8 pins, so it was a close one
I also managed (largely because of the 225) to hit my top series 548 by bowling 155 and 168 in games 2 and 3.
I've raised my league average from 156.57 to 159.83 in just this one week. We went 3-1 last night to move back to .500 (18-18), although our team didn't bowl week 1.

You shot 225 with a gutter on the fill ball in the 10th?

ok, so I'm thinking it's about time to get a spare ball for situations like leaving the 10 pin....what do I look for in a spare ball?

should it be the same weight as my regular ball? lighter? should it be plastic? is anyone better than another?

or is this my chance to show some flare and get a ball that looks like a baseball ?(i.e. MLB the Show commercial - and yes, Storm makes a ball in that design)

I'd recommend same weight and drilling. You don't want it feeling different from your regular ball. And since you're buying it specifically for spares, plastic is what you'd want. No need for it to hook at all. If you want to be creative and buy one of those gimmick balls, all the better. That's about the only thing they're good for.
