We had to return the cap and gown to get our diploma.

8. Kid calls the police officer a rude name and starts acting like a spoiled brat, doing all the stupid things brats do, perhaps including threats?
9. Kid has now broken the law, and is eligible for arrest.

I don't think it's difficult to see how the kid could have escalated this one. Especially when you consider that all high school students are idiots.

Okay, next question. Why is a police officer necessary to keep the peace at a high school graduation? Keeping in mind this isn't some inner city HS, it's in rural Maine.

Does this mean the kid vomitted a beach ball?

Administrator stinks at crowd control and instilling a sense of proper conduct.

Kid is very, very dense.

OK. Graduating kids got rowdy, started throwing beach balls. One kid got so rowdy, sheriff's deputy had to get him to leave (alcohol involved, I'd guess. Note that beachball kid's folks are NOT complaining to the press.) Administrator is steamed. Reams out kids. Tells them next person to get out of line won't graduate either. Dense kid does NOT get the message making a fancy bow and throwing kisses probably will not go over well with already steamed administrator. Hey, no beach balls involved right? Debacle ensues.

Administrator over-reacted, and lost control before this ever happened, but that kid is "number than a hake".

Beachball kid claims he never touched the beach ball. But admits to melting down on the officer:

Lamy said he was sitting one row behind a student who inflated a beach ball and tossed it into the air.

"We thought that was great. It's a celebration," he said. "I didn't even get a chance to touch the beach ball."

A student sitting next to Lamy, Decker Leonard, said Lamy didn't appear to have anything to do with the beach balls.

According to Chief Deputy Kevin Joyce, school administrators asked the resource officer to move Lamy to a different part of the stage, as he had done with another senior. When the deputy told Lamy to get up, the student "began swearing and was uncooperative. At that point, (a school official) asked that he be removed," Joyce said.

Lamy admits to getting upset.

"All I heard was, 'Come on, let's go. I'm taking you out of here,' " Lamy said Tuesday. "I was so upset and so distraught, I had a hard time keeping my composure. Basically, all I did was raise my arms up to show I didn't have anything, and then from there it just got heated. He said, 'Let's go now or I'll take you out in cuffs.' "

Outside the auditorium, the deputy threatened to arrest Lamy before Lamy took off his gown and threw it at the officer and walked out, according to Joyce.

Seriously, how dumb HS student is it to remove cap and gown and throw it at the officer? LOL.

Agreed. The HS kid was silly to melt down, but he's a teenager. The administrators are (purportedly) professionals who should have social skills sufficient to avoid the conflict in the first place.
