It appears these schools were doing the "nickel & diming" of hours that the law was intended to prevent. Too bad the administrators weren't familiar with the basic laws governing how they are supposed to run their schools.

We need a new thread titled: "News stories that demonstrate extreme lack of common sense."

First for the fact that the stupid rules won't count the 175 minute days as minimum days. C'mon, what's 5 minutes? Second for the fact that they need to be "made up" in their entirety. Third, for having the $7 million contingent on this whole mess. Seriously people, WTF?

that's what got me, I felt they had to be trying to bend the rules, not be so ignorant of them to actually report their stupidity

If a private school did this, parents would withdraw their kids en masse, and the school would go out of business.

Ah....accountability. Seems that's what's missing here. Where are the firings?

The "person responsible" is retiring.

Personally, I think the "person responsible" should not get her state pension until the $7M is made up.

There you go. I like that. That would get results. Or, the district could lose the $7M and fire people to cover the shortfall. The idea that hundreds perhaps thousands) of people will be inconvenienced because of one idiot could only be brought to you by government.

Yeah, that's pretty bizarre. If the administrators don't know the basic parameters of the job they are supposed to do, you have to wonder what else they messed up. It's as if a P&C reserving actuary just forgot about DCC/ALAE. Dude, there are things you just have to look at.

I think it this had happened at a private school it would have just gone out of business, unless it could do some awesome fundraising to make up the $7M.

Has the state been looking at this in the past?

And will the teachers be expecting to be paid extra for these additional days?
