the looters? thankfully, they haven't made it to where I live *yet*, but from what I hear, they are pretty darn close.

Hi neighbor, would you mind asking your kids to keep the volume down to 11 so that I can concentrate on work? You could also sweeten the deal by throwing in a 6-pack or baking a pie.

I didn't think about the noise canceling headphones route. I just got some Bose 700's, which people complained made me sound too quiet on calls. Combined with the fact that I spend 6+ hours a day on calls, I had abandoned using them during the workday. But I could use them just when the kids are outside. Good suggestion!

Don't get me wrong: I have 3 kids of my own, and I totally believe kids should be free to play, have fun, and yes, even get loud at times. That's not the problem.

The problem is, these kids scream as if they're being killed. Or they yell at each other angrily. Or they whine at a shockingly high decibel level. And now that I'm working from home all the time, I'm aware of every minute that they're outside.
i'm hoping there is a good answer to this because my kids are way too f'ing loud when they play in our backyard. if i was my neighbor i would hate me.

Some of the conversations I've overheard between kids who think nobody is listening are pretty funny.
Our previous neighbors had two kids of similar ages as these. They did "normal loud kid" stuff, but it was mostly laughing and other playful sounds. I actually enjoyed hearing them, even if it was sometimes distracting. They nearly always made me smile.

The current kids are not normal. It really is a shriek-fest. I'm stunned the parents don't think it's a problem that needs addressing. I'm convinced that the daughter, in particular, has learned that constant whining is how she gets her way. So I don't see that getting better any time soon.

Let me guess, the neighbors' kids are mostly girls?

Same here... The boys shout and yell at each other and can be mildly annoying as well, but the incessant ear splitting screams coming from the girls are much more obnoxious, especially when they are doing something that shouldn't require screaming at all like playing tag or whatever
