I can barely retape my handlebars. I think I'd worry about my bike falling apart in traffic. My mechanic sure is happy, though.

At least picking the custom components is worth it imo. I've ended up swapping out a lot of stuff on big box bikes and think it's better to just get the parts you want. I'm not putting it together myself, though.
