I post on:

thehackersparadise.com - It's a fantastic golf forum and the only forum I have ever been a part of where people try to be as nice and encouraging as possible to each other. Debates are always cordial and when someone gets out of line people correct them. It's also a forum where many of the members go on golf trips together so they actually know each other instead of being a bunch of anonymous randos. No politics or off topic here, just golf, golf clubs, golf courses, PGA Tour talk etc.

catsillustrated.com - I call it The Cats Pause because it originally started out as that, but it's a message board for University Of Kentucky fans. I use it follow recruiting a bit (kind of falling off in interest as I get older) and also to post in their version of NAT The Paddock for general discussions. There is a lot of sarcasm, cynicism, and general making fun of people when folks post there. The politics section on that forum is the polar opposite of the one here. Liberals are treated as idiotic know nothings with no brain and conservatives are deified, it's quite funny seeing the dichotomy between the 2.

I sometimes post on

https://www.dpreview.com/forums

More often, I read, and learn stuff. It's all about digital cameras, and like other special-purpose forums, it's a cordial and supportive place, with no tolerance for people being nasty. They might have a "non cameras topics" section, but if they do, I've never ventured there.

This is why I tend to avoid forums - because they are the opposite of this. For the things I have any real interest in I've found myself using Facebook groups. Granted, they're not any more tolerant than online forums but oh well.

Facebook groups are a little better IMO since it's more of a pain to make an anonymous account that will get admitted into a group.

My typical approach is join the group, unfollow it and mute all notifications, go back to it as needed to find information. Occasionally I read through just to see how crazy people are.
