Fracktuary thinks machine learning is great but doesn't think anyone should learn linear algebra. Basically he's one of those dudes that just gathers data, cleans it and plugs it in R and runs some routine on it. They're called data fitters.

When I was in college, all the "social science" subject areas always began the introductory courses with an explanation of why "sociology" or "psychology" or "political science" or whatever was actually a science. Even since then I have been dubious about any specialized subject area calling itself a science.
