That is basically just a COLA adjustment. Not a raise.

That's not how employers market them to employees.

But yeah, any time you're in a situation where your pay increases fail to keep pace with inflation such that your real wages are going down... it really stinks. I've been there during economic downturns.

I remember from an economics class that this is actually considered a benefit of inflation though... that it allows real wages to decrease with less psychological harm* to employees than would occur if their nominal wages decreased. Allows more wage flexibility on the part of the employer.



*maybe "harm" isn't quite the right word, but I think you know what I mean

0% merit/COL (which ought to be negative since change in cost of my basket of goods > 0%, but I voted 0).

Your salary range didn’t go up with the current promotion? Seems odd.

3.5% raise. Bonus increased from 18% to 23%. Not sure why, but I'm not complaining.

He took a big pay cut when he left the normal insurance world.

Its like going from $100k to $70K to $115K
