Am rooting for Justin Gatlin. He paid the price, did the 'time', and now has turned his career in the right direction once again. Hope he makes the team and medals. Rooting for all U.S. track and field athletes. Can't wait for the trials and then the games.

This is just wrong. If you want to train speed, you are significantly better of both training and living in a hot environment. You get injured less this way.

You'll often see top athletes pull out of races because its too cold and in fear of pulling a muscle.

I can't remember the last time I saw any track athlete run their race in practice. Probably not since high school. That's what early-season meets are for.

Note: I am not counting repeat reps at, say, 200 meters for a 200/400 runner. They aren't "running their race" in this instance, at least in the way I interpret your use of that phrase.

Illinois upgraded their indoor facility

Apparently they told the cold weather to dial their taint

Weird to see the fastest sprinter being from Illinois
Curtis Beach from Duke trying to pull off the elusive 800m + Long Jump double! Pretty crazy that he can jump 25' and run a sub 1:48 800.

For some reason he's not competing in the Decathlon at Nationals. He was 2nd in the ACC decathlon.

I'm curious what he's going to focus on professionally. Is he just really bad at the throws or something?

He certainly has a shot at winning the decathlon with his PR.

From a team standpoint, though, perhaps Duke doesn't want him to do the decathlon so that he can focus on the 800 and Long Jump. The decathlon is such a crapshoot.

Did he qualify for decath?

WI did something similar at Big Ten conference meet with Japeth Cato. Instead of having him compete in decath and win 10 points, he competed in hurdles, long jump, and pole vault, as well as running on the 4x100 team. Scored more than the 10 points for the team so it was definitely worth it.

Japeth is competing in decath at nationals.
