Default Formula 1

I don't follow racing much, but isn't it customary to have more than 6 cars participate in a major event?

In a real race...yes. But this was F1, which is international for "car show". It doesn't matter how many cars participate. They end up with the same number of on track lead changes either way.

Link?

I did see this on the local sports. Said the crowd was booing either at the end or when the champs went to the podium.

Did they get these tires off of Ford Explorers?

I think they are having a sale on Michelin tires in Indianapolis today.

I think they were Michelin tires. There was some sort of concern about how they would hold up in the final turn which is the only banked turn on the course. Apparently there were some accidents during practice sessions due to tires faltering in that turn. Surprising they would make such a gross error when there is so much riding on their tires.

Fans were throwing bottles onto the track during the event. There was one great highlight of Rubens Barrichelo running over a water bottle.

Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a privilege, not a right. If F1 can't take it seriously, they shouldn't be allowed to race there again. If F1 really wants Americans to pay attention, this was a huge blunder.

Are you kidding? I've heard more about F1 in the last 24 hours than I've heard in the last 24 months.

I guess I wasn't counting negative attention. In that people are ridiculing F1, rather than saying "Oh yeah, F1, that's pretty neat."

Decided to search for a thread before I created one, but wasn't expecting it to be this old

So I guess

One of the activities I got into during the pandemic was F1 racing. Ended up watching full replays of all of the 2019 races and all of the 2012 races.

This weekend F1 is scheduled to return in Austria at the Red Bull Ring. First practices are tomorrow with qualifying Saturday and the race Sunday.

Anybody else on the AO follow F1?
