The EVPV and VHM stuff for Brosius really isn't that bad once you get used to using the formulas on some problems. Just have to memorize/internalize the formulas. Rising Fellow's Cookbook is incredible for this.

I think TIA was the one who derived how you get the credibility weighting formula for y-hat. It made the formula make so much more sense after that... the one where Z = b/c.

I'm using the TIA study material and I'm about halfway through Brosius. So far, so good, but I'm having trouble telling what things I need to know how to do and what's just a proof or example that I don't need to remember.

You'll get that feeling for most of the chapters but looking at problems lets you know what to actually take away. I don't think you'll ever have to know any of the proofs.
